Ionized water is normal drinking water that has undergone a process called ionization. In this process, water is filtered through a machine which uses negatively and positively charged electrodes to divide the water into different compartments. Water atoms either give electrons to the electrodes or receive them, which results in the separation of the alkaline and acid content found in H20. This causes the water molecules to form in smaller clusters than normal water which enhances the ability of the blood to carry oxygen and assists in neutralizing free radicals in the bloodstream.
The water ionizer machines themselves have long been used internationally, especially in Japan, but have been generating increased interest in the United States during the past few years. The Japanese culture has integrated this system into their everyday lives, from household drinking water to hospital sterilization, and more.
A typical machine ranges from about $1,000 to $6,000 and is generally attached to a faucet or installed under the sink. The alkaline water, which is said to be ideal for drinking and cooking comes out of one of the machine’s spigots, while the acid water which can be used for cleaning, comes out of another.
WHY IS IT GOOD FOR YOU
There are many anticipated health benefits to drinking ionized water. Following are a few of the most agreed upon advantages:
- Provides hydration that is about 3 – 6 times more effective than normal water. These enhanced hydration abilities allow the ingestion of ionized water to aid in various types of skin conditions including sunburns or dry skin
- Increases absorption rates of vitamins such as C, A, and E because of its ability to carry oxygen infused with an additional electron. This increases the capacity to seek out and effectively prevent free radicals from making the body more susceptible to disease
- Contributes the extra electron with helps the body function at a higher rate of efficiency, allowing the individual to enjoy a higher amount of energy and focus
- Supplies a higher pH level than normal water, (about 8.5-9.5) which helps your body balance the acidic effects of eating certain foods like meat and eggs
IS IT VALID
It is clear that there is some difference of opinion on how effective ionized water is with all of these functions, but there is enough evidence of the benefits of electrolyzed fluids to merit continued exploration of the subject. Although some doctors claim that “human evidence is lacking”, most scientists attest to the logic behind the chemical reactions and effects. There is also an abundance of anecdotal evidence from people who claim to have improved their quality of life or reversed various ailments through drinking only ionized water.
It will be interesting to see what develops as more research is done on the subject, but as of now if you read comments, testimonials, etc. it seems that everyone who has tried it has definitely become hooked.
