Quick Facts on Tigard Traffic
This spring the Oregon Department of Transportation released the updated report of traffic safety quick facts for the state, counties and all major cities. The increasing trend of motor vehicle crashes that was exposed during the last year stunned many in Oregon as the national trend has been a slow, steady decline of traffic collisions.
Here are the facts by the numbers for 2011:
- 49,053 total crashes in Oregon.
- 6,659 total crashes in Washington County
- 4,972 total injuries resulted from a motor vehicle accident in Washington County.
- The number of motor vehicle collisions in Oregon increased by 11% from 2010.
- The number of crashes causing injuries went up by 14%.
- The number of crashes causing injuries in Tigard went up by 16%
According to the research, afternoon rush hour is statistically the most dangerous time to drive and most accidents are caused by driver error: following too closely, running into fixed objects, failure to yield the right-of-way, driving too fast for conditions, failing to obey traffic signs, and inattention.
Many experts believe that distracted driving may be the root cause of a growing number of crashes every year. To protect yourself; stay alert, practice defensive driving and do not, under any circumstance, use your cell phone or smart phone while on the road.
If You’re in an Accident
Visit a doctor as soon as possible after a car accident. Even if you feel fine, less severe injuries or symptoms may turn into something more in the days following the accident. Any pain, discomfort, dizziness or numbness should be documented and be checked out by a medical professional. The longer you wait to seek medical attention, the more difficult it becomes to prove the injuries are related to the car crash. When visiting a chiropractic clinic after a car accident a chiropractors will help evaluate your personal injuries and also provide documentation necessary for a bodily injury claim. Says Dr. Beebe, “Studies have shown that the primary complication of a strain sprain is arthritis – chiropractic care will help to dampen any lasting effect of trauma.”
